The children at the Royal Opera House. Photo: Jennifer RileyOn Monday 16 December, a group of Dagenham primarySTEPS Level Two and Three children (and some parents) caught the tube to Covent Garden to see The Royal Ballet in a dress rehearsal of Jewels by George Balanchine at the Royal Opera House.

They were lucky enough to see behind the scenes, which was an interesting learning experience for the whole group.

The children, who watched attentively, made some interesting observations:

The sounds of the orchestra were ‘joyful, intense, soothing, upbeat, romantic, elegant, passionate, beautiful, soulful, calm’
Faith Johnson Yr 5

‘From Rubies I liked the turns the best’
Cullum Mehegan Yr 5

‘My favourite Jewel was Rubies because there was more tension to it, but I also liked Diamonds because of the crystals and it’s like Swan Lake’
Dara Abimbola Yr 5
