This week we have welcomed students and staff from the Royal Danish Ballet School, visiting us over two days.

Our Danish visitors have been in contact with Year 9 students as pen pals and have come here to meet their new friends and learn about how our students’ life and training compares to their own.

Yesterday the students had a tour of White Lodge and watched ballet class, and today the group visits our Upper School in Covent Garden.

Emily, 13, a student at the Royal Danish Ballet School said:

‘White Lodge is a very big and beautiful place and it’s so green here! I didn’t expect that in central London.

‘It’s not only the location that is different to our school, but things like the uniform – we don’t have to wear one at all. Also the girls here have to tie their hair in a certain way whereas we can do it however we like.

‘And we can wear any kinds of earrings whereas girls here aren’t allowed. It’s much stricter than in Denmark! But it’s so interesting to come here and see how another School works and everyone has been so nice.’

Ethan, 14, a Year 9 student at The Royal Ballet School, said:

‘It’s great to see the comparison between the two Schools – we’re similar in lots of ways but different in that, for example, the majority of them are day children, whereas nearly all of us are boarders.

‘They have a similar schedule to us in Year 7. And they’re all really friendly – we’ll definitely stay in touch.’
