The Creative Artist Programme

This initiative is designed to provide a broader and more rounded education for our dancers to prepare them for the ever-increasing demands of being a professional dancer. To produce not only dancers of the highest technical capability, but also ones who are versatile, creative and have the ability to portray emotion, drama and feeling on stage. We aim to broaden horizons, generate new ideas, encourage creative risk-taking and ultimately the development of the ‘whole’ person.

The programme comprises several elements:

  • Stagecraft lessons/workshops – teaching the students how to develop a role and express themselves clearly on stage
  • Guest Teachers – The students benefit immeasurably from being exposed to different teaching and performance styles
  • Guest Speakers – a series of talks/workshops by inspirational speakers who have achieved excellence within their field
  • Alumni – speaking about their careers, sharing the highs and lows of a dancer’s life, the pitfalls and how to avoid them. Also alumni who have chosen or gone on to different careers
  • International tours and exchanges
  • Outings – to galleries, museums, theatres, concerts

Our students are taught The Royal Ballet School’s unique system of training. It is however, essential for their artistic development to be exposed to the widest possible range of teaching and performance styles.

The School works with some of the finest teachers and coaches in the world, all eager to share their expertise with our students.

Teachers who have recently taught in the School include:

  • Patrick Armand: Artistic Director of San Francisco Ballet School
  • Monique Loudieres: Former Principal with Paris Opera Ballet
  • Laurence Korsenti: Former Principal Dutch National Ballet
  • Thomas Lund: Artistic Director of The Royal Danish School of Ballet
  • Betty Anderton: Principal Guest Teacher, The Royal Ballet

Principal Dancers from the Royal Ballet also regularly enhance the School’s artistic faculty.

The Guest Teacher Programme requires on-going financial support to cover fees, airfares and accommodation for the teachers. Its scope and success depend on our Sponsors’ support.

Five sponsors at £2,500 are sought to support the programme every year.

Sponsors of the Guest Teacher Programme receive:

  • Opportunities to watch classes given by the Guest Teachers
  • Invitations to Royal Ballet School events throughout the year
  • Tickets to the Summer Performance at Opera Holland Park
  • Priority Booking for the Summer Performance at the Royal Opera House
  • Encore â€“ The Royal Ballet School’s termly e-newsletter
  • Grateful acknowledgement on the School’s website and in its Annual Review

Sponsor our International tours and exchanges

Ywo

We aim to offer the graduate year students an opportunity to perform overseas, sharing the expertise and reputation of the School with the rest of the world. This is particularly valuable for students on the brink of their professional careers, to hone their performance skills and help them secure a professional contract.

The School runs exchange programmes with other vocational ballet schools, designed to give students first-hand experience of the training systems and performance styles of other great schools and the benefit of training with other high-achieving students.

Recent tours have included performances in Rome, Tokyo, Montreux, Lausanne, New York and exchanges with Paris Opera Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, the Royal Danish Ballet School and students attending the National Ballet School of Canada’s Assemblée Internationale

These tours and exchanges are only made possible with financial support to cover airfares, visas, accommodation, ground transport, staffing and per diems.

Tours and exchange sponsors receive:

  • The opportunity to attend classes or rehearsals prior to the students going on tour
  • VIP tickets to a preview performance in London and reception with the students
  • Acknowledgement in the printed tour programme
  • An agreed number of tickets to the overseas performances
  • Invitations to Royal Ballet School events throughout the year
  • Tickets to the Summer Performances at Opera Holland Park
  • Priority booking for the Summer Performances at the Royal Opera House
  • Encore â€“ The Royal Ballet School’s termly e-newsletter
  • Grateful acknowledgement on the School’s website and in its Annual Review
