Summer performances 2024

Summer performance 2023

Throughout the School year students perform both in School and on some of the biggest public stages: this is as integral to their training as establishing sound ballet technique. Through regular performances, students understand how to transform ballet vocabulary into a magical, exhilarating experience for an audience, and practice preparing, physically and mentally, for the stage.

The highlight of the year is our Summer Performances at beautiful Opera Holland Park and on the greatly prestigious main stage of the Royal Opera House. Each year, Artistic Director Christopher Powney chooses a selection of works to showcase the technical prowess, remarkable artistry and admirable versatility of the School’s exceptional students.

This year, the programme will include excerpts from Petipa’s Paquita and two works by The Royal Ballet’s Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton, the pas de deux from Rhapsody and La Valse, set in 19th-century Imperial Vienna.

The School will also present the dynamic Concerto Grosso by Helgi Tómasson for five male dancers and Didy Veldman’s playful TooT featuring a cast of circus-like figures. There will be Jerome Robbins’ satirical Mistake Waltz for six ladies, and new works created on the students for these performances by Gemma Bond and Ashley Page. School alumnus and First Artist of The Royal Ballet, Joshua Junker, will work with Upper School students to stage his piece Remembrance, originally choreographed for Dutch National Ballet Junior Company in 2023.

The Royal Opera House matinée performance will end with the traditional Grand Défilé, bringing all 220 students of the School together on stage.
