Student sponsorship

Perhaps one of the most rewarding ways to support The Royal Ballet School is to sponsor one of our students and help them to fulfil their dream to dance professionally.

With admission to School based purely on artistic merit and potential, competition is fierce and every year hundreds of young dancers, from across the world, apply for one of its coveted place.

We pride ourselves on never turning away a talented student due to lack of financial means and as such rely on individuals, companies and charitable trusts to support these exceptional young dancers.

Where your sponsorship is most needed

British students awarded a full-time place at The Royal Ballet School are eligible for a means-tested grant from the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme.  Sponsorship however is needed for international students who join us at 16-19 years old in Covent Garden.

Students from Europe qualify for part funding from the Music and Dance Scheme, which covers their training but not their accommodation or living expenses, and often require ‘Maintenance Sponsorship’.  Those from beyond the EEA are illegible for any Government grant and can require up to full sponsorship to attend the School.  All sponsorship is means-tested.

As their careers progress, you will take pride in knowing you played a major part in helping them to realise their potential.

As a Student Sponsor you will receive:

  • Regular reports and personal letters from your student updating you on their progress
  • Opportunities to watch your student in class
  • Invitations to performances and competitions where your student may be performing
  • VIP tickets to the Summer Performances at the Royal Opera House
  • Invitations to other Royal Ballet School events throughout the year
  • Complimentary copies of Encore the biannual School e-newsletter
  • Grateful acknowledgement in the School’s Annual Report

Full Fees: £28,749
Maintenance Fees: £10,185

Student sponsorship is sought at £10,000 upwards or £5,000 to share sponsorship of a student. A commitment of three years is requested where possible to support a student through the School.

Student Hardship Fund

This is an important fund to which students may apply if they are struggling to meet everyday costs such as ballet shoes, uniform, travel and audition costs.  Donations at any level to this fund can make a considerable difference and are most gratefully received.
