Royal ballet first soloist valeri hristov to join royal ballet school teaching staff

One of The Royal Ballet’s finest dancers, Valeri Hristov, will join The Royal Ballet School’s artistic staff this year as a Ballet Teacher.

The Bulgarian-born First Soloist has been dancing with The Royal Ballet since 2002. He completed The Royal Ballet School’s Diploma of Dance Teaching in 2016 and achieved Level 6 Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning from Trinity College London. He comes to the School with excellent experience, having taught students at Central School of Ballet, Royal Academy of Dance Scotland, The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School and, since 2015, dancers at The Royal Ballet. He has adjudicated at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Awards and the Royal Academy of Dance Phyllis Bedells Bursary. As well as teaching classical ballet and pas de deux, Valeri will coach students in key aspects of the English ballet repertory, which he himself has danced so recently on the Royal Opera House stage. He joins an illustrious faculty of artistic teachers at the school.

Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, said: ‘I am delighted that Valeri has been given this wonderful opportunity, continuing to foster close collaboration between the school and Company.

‘Valeri’s diploma studies led to invaluable experience teaching the Company dancers and it is exciting that now he can pass on the baton of Royal Ballet knowledge to the next generation of young artists.’

Christopher Powney, Royal Ballet School Artistic Director, said: ‘I am thrilled that Valeri Hristov will be joining us as a new member of our artistic teaching team from September.

‘Valeri’s wealth of dancing experience, impressive career in the Company, knowledge of The Royal Ballet repertory and lifelong passion to teach will be of great value to the school. I look forward to welcoming him to our exceptional teaching team.’
