The Royal Ballet School has a rich heritage of promoting excellence in classical ballet teaching. In our teacher training courses, we use our unique expertise to empower all teachers to deliver exceptional training, whether in the vocational or recreational sector.

We continually work to remain at the forefront of the field. Our courses are rooted in pedagogy and support teachers to reflect on their practice and develop their skills and knowledge to give the best learning experience for their students.

We offer courses for dance professionals at all levels of experience and from all backgrounds. These range from one-hour webinars to one-day in-person seminars, our dedicated programme for Affiliate recreational teachers, and our two-year vocational Diploma of Dance Teaching.

Inspire seminars

Dance teacher training

Held in the UK and internationally, our one-day Inspire seminars support the professional development of teachers from all backgrounds, from student teachers to experienced teachers. Alongside giving teachers a comprehensive understanding of the teaching of classical ballet technique, the seminars offer fresh, innovative ideas to guide teachers in their approach.

Enlighten webinars

Open to all, our one-hour Enlighten webinars give dance teachers invaluable insights, advice, inspiration and support, drawing on the School’s extensive knowledge and experience as a world leader in dance education. The webinars are perfect for developing a teacher’s CPD portfolio and an excellent supplement to our Inspire series.

Diploma of Dance Teaching

The Royal Ballet School’s Diploma of Dance Teaching is a two-year part-time course that trains professional dancers and teachers to teach classical ballet at a vocational and pre-vocational level to a world-class standard. The course provides a sound foundation in technical and creative approaches to teaching ballet to a broad range of students, using The Royal Ballet School’s Vocational Vocabulary and Methodology and drawing on the most up-to-date relevant pedagogy

Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme

Our Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme extends The Royal Ballet School’s System of Training to recreational dance teachers, driving forward the standard of recreational dance training and keeping pace with the changing needs of the art form.
