New choreography with American Ballet Theatre Studio Company

On Monday 21 May, we welcomed American Ballet Theatre Studio Company to the School for our annual exchange programme.

The 3rd Year Royal Ballet School students took class with the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company and also rehearsed for a collaborative choreographic project.

This year, guest choreographer Ma Cong, Resident Choreographer of Tulsa Ballet, led the project. Cong worked with each school separately in London and New York to create a new ballet, On the First Star Of The Night. Cong then put the piece together during the exchange week.

In previous years British choreographer Liam Scarlett, an alumnus of The Royal Ballet School, and Ethan Stiefel, former Principal of American Ballet Theatre, have similarly created new choreography for the exchange.

The exchange week culminated in two performances in the Linden Studio with friends and family in the audience. The students performed repertoire as well as premiering Cong’s piece.

The Royal Ballet School and American Ballet Theatre Studio Company would like to thank Ricki Gail Conway for her continued support of this invaluable exchange programme. The exchange is a unique learning opportunity for our young dancers and is only made possible with her support.
