Children in a choir sing from choirbooks

Our White Lodge students were in fine voice at our annual Christmas Carol Service, held on 8th December at Christ Church in East Sheen.

Due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure the safety of our students and their families, we took the sad decision not to have an in-person audience for the second year running. The concert was filmed by our team and shared privately with our students’ loved ones. However, this didn’t dampen the festive spirit and our students performed the pieces they have been working so hard on beautifully. The service was put together by Sophie Cleobury, Head of Music.

A welcome from our Artistic Director

Artistic Director Christopher Powney gave a welcome address, sharing his regrets that we were unable to be together in person but hoping that the recording would bring some magic to viewers’ homes, wherever they were in the world. He expressed how proud he has been of our extraordinary students’ resilience and positivity through recent challenges. He also thanked students’ families for working together with the School to maintain a sense of community, and to ensure the students continued to enjoy a supportive, nurturing environment.

Festive favourites

Soloists from Years 10 and 11 and the choir and chamber choirs from Years 7, 8 and 9 performed well-known carols including Once in Royal David’s City, O Holy Night, Sing We Now of Christmas and Night of Silence/Silent Night. There were also some festive readings, including a rendition of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Head Girl Olivia Senay-Bayram and Head Boy Luke Wragg.

The Royal Ballet School extends grateful thanks to the Reverend Heather Peters and her team at Christ Church for welcoming us so warmly. Thank you also to our accompanist, Mr Turner, and our House staff, Operations and Content teams for their support.
