Students to perform in Unite for Ukraine
We are so proud to confirm that some of our students will be taking part in Unite for Ukraine, a special gala performance to raise awareness and funds to support those who have been affected by the devastating ongoing war in Ukraine. The event will take place on Sunday 15 May at 7.30pm at Sadler’s Wells.
Uniting in support
Our students will be coming together with five other top ballet schools: Central School of Ballet, Elmhurst Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Northern Ballet School and Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Unite for Ukraine is directed by Viviana Durante, Artistic Director of English National Ballet School.
All at The Royal Ballet School have been shocked and deeply saddened by the ongoing conflict, and the terrible impact it has had on millions of people, displaced from their homes and facing unimaginable fear, grief and loss. Our students and staff welcome the opportunity to join with other schools to use our art form to raise awareness of the plight of those affected, and desperately-needed financial support.
The gala will consist of a range of classical and contemporary works from each school’s repertoire performed by the students. Excerpts from works by Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s The Sleeping Beauty and Grace & Gravity by Andrew McNicol will all be included in the programme, with further repertoire to be announced.
Giving to Ukraine
All schools, their associated artists and choreographers will be dedicating their services free of charge. Sadler’s Wells will also be offering the use of their theatre for free and all proceeds from the event will go towards the Disasters Emergency Committee, Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Our students have already raised over £1800 for this appeal, through holding a ‘mufti’ day at White Lodge, and collecting generous donations from audience members at our Upper School Solos Evening. We are grateful that through this gala we can continue to raise funds and contribute our support for such a critical cause.
