A weekend of celebration – King Charles III’s Coronation
On Saturday 6 May, our President King Charles III was coronated and celebrations took place across the country in honour of this once-in-a-generation occasion. Staff, students, and alumni all joined in the festivities throughout the weekend.
Two of our alumni, Francesca Hayward and Marcelino Sambé, took starring roles in the Coronation Concert on Sunday 7 May. They danced to Somewhere from West Side Story, alongside Act I Scene V from Romeo and Juliet acted by Ncuti Gatwa and Mei Mac. The performance was a collaboration of five royal institutions: the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal College of Art, the Royal College of Music, the Royal Opera House, and The Royal Ballet. It was fantastic to see our alumni take part in this momentous event.
On Friday, staff attended an afternoon tea party hosted at Upper School. We enjoyed sandwiches, cakes, and scones and had a lovely time celebrating together ahead of the weekend.
Our White Lodge students enjoyed a weekend of coronation-themed activities. The kitchen held a spectacular dinner with plenty of delicious food and royal decorations. On Sunday, there was cream tea in the garden and students had fun playing games and taking part in a scavenger hunt.
There was also a special coronation meal laid on for our Upper School students. The menu included traditional British foods such as Beef Wellington and English trifle. Some of the students described the food as ‘insane’! A refreshing non-alcoholic ‘Pimm’s’ punch was served at the dinner as well. The celebrations continued on Sunday with a buffet, followed by lots of dancing.
