Open to dance teachers around the world, our online Enlighten webinars and clinics provide teachers with invaluable insights, advice, inspiration and support, drawing on the School’s extensive knowledge and experience as a world leader in dance education and training. Delivered by expert tutors from the School’s Teacher Training team, these sessions are perfect for developing your CPD portfolio and an excellent supplement to our Inspire series.

The webinars and clinics cover a wide range of topics from the technical and artistic aspects of dance training and good teaching practice to business modelling and management.

This webinar highlights the mental and physical demands placed upon a student dancer within different dance environments; class, rehearsal, and performance. We will explore how these demands can affect students and outline strategies for teachers to support their health and wellbeing.

Session aims:

  • Identify the different types of load (mechanical, psychological and physiological) involved in dance and highlight the demands classical ballet places on the body
  • Explore strategies that can optimise a dancer’s health and wellbeing.

This webinar looks at ways to increase range of motion in dancers. It will reflect upon current research and the evidence underpinning best practice, and identify strategies to help teachers accommodate different stages of development and growth.

  • Consider the science behind increasing range of motion in young dancers

This session explores the core principles of delivering clear and effective feedback to genuinely support student progress. Participants will examine different forms of feedback and learn practical strategies which are easily applied to improve future performance. The webinar also provides clear guidance on giving kinaesthetic feedback safely and appropriately to ensure teachers feel confident using physical correction within professional boundaries.

This webinar explores creative practice; an increasingly important component of dance training. Integrating and implementing creative approaches within children’s dance education is now essential for teachers and practitioners. This session will give participants an understanding of combining creative work with technical training and artistry.

Session aims:

Provide an overview of creative practice and its applications

Develop an understanding of how creative practice can enhance and support traditional dance training for children

Offer practical guidance for dance teachers looking to incorporate and support creative practice in classes for children aged five and over.

This webinar explores ways to better support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN(D)) within the dance classroom. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of inclusive practice through an introduction to a range of SEN(D) profiles, a practical teaching toolkit and Michelle’s Whyte’s lived insights.

Session aims:

Provide advice on recognising SEN(D) students in your classes and develop an understanding of various disabilities and special educational needs

Deliver a toolbox of shared ideas to utilise in classes

Learn how to create a safe, inclusive and motivating environment for all dance students.

This session will look at different ways of understanding and enhancing good postural alignment by using concepts and techniques used in the Franklin Method. The Franklin Method is a way of understanding and improving movement potential through engaging the body and mind equally. This webinar will include a short practical element.

Session aims:

  •  Explore techniques that will enhance postural alignment through proprioceptive and kinaesthetic feedback
  •  Increase body awareness, which will contribute to improved balance and stability
  • Explore the use of different types of imagery that can enhance efficient postural patterns
  • Develop strategies that will enhance the student’s ability to focus and engage in their own learning process.

This session will look at different pedagogical strategies that can help to develop a student’s physical, cognitive and affective skills by using concepts taken from the Franklin Method. The Franklin Method is a way of understanding and improving movement through engaging the body and mind equally. This webinar will include a very small practical element, no space needed, it can be done standing up or sitting down.

Session aims:

  • Experience techniques that enhance proprioceptive and kinaesthetic feedback
  • Increase body awareness, contributing to a greater anatomical understanding
  •  Explore different types of imagery that help to develop the quality of a movement
  • Develop strategies that will enhance the student’s ability to focus and engage in their own learning process.

What makes a musical, artistic dancer? What can we do as teachers to help our students develop skills for communicating and expressing ideas and emotions through movement?

This webinar will explore artistry and musicality in terms of the three learning domains (physical, cognitive and affective), examine various movement dynamics and how they can help us to be both receptive and creative, and discuss ways to give our students opportunities to expand and increase their individual aptitude and potential.

Session aims:

  • Highlight areas of pedagogy that relate to the teaching of musicality and artistry
  • Identify the ingredients needed to nurture creative, responsive dancers
  • Reflect upon areas of teaching that may require further development.

What are the ingredients of a successful teacher? What can we do as teachers to help our students learn?
This session outlines the areas of dance pedagogy that we as teachers need to reflect upon in order to develop our practice.

Session aims:

  • Highlight areas of pedagogy in relation to the teaching of dance
  • Identify the ingredients needed for being an outstanding teacher: the five E’s
  • Reflect upon areas of teaching that may require professional development.

Clinic topics

In this clinic, participants will have the opportunity to dive deeper into the topic of flexibility.

Do you have a student in mind that struggles with turnout? Or a hypermobile dancer that lacks control?

Emma Porter, Training and Access Healthcare Lead, and Sarah Daultry, Teacher Training Manager, will answer questions and suggest practical solutions you can apply to your teacher practice, while deepening your knowledge and understanding of flexibility.

Session aims:

  • Gain insights from specialists in dance healthcare
  • Share experiences and learn from the perspectives of fellow educators
  • Reflect on and enhance teacher practice through professional discussion and peer learning
  • Explore practical approaches to supporting the health, wellbeing and development of dance students
  • Identify strategies and resources that can be applied in educational settings
  • Contribute to ongoing professional development and record CPD learning outcomes.

Running a dance school is rewarding but it can also be demanding and, at times, isolating. This Enlighten clinic explores the real-world challenges faced by dance teachers and dance school owners in today’s fast-paced environment.

This session offers practical and actionable guidance, whether teachers are navigating parent communication, supporting diverse learning needs or juggling the operational pressures of running a school.

Karen Berry, Head of Teacher Training, and Sarah Daultry, Teacher Training Manager, will address questions directly, offering solutions grounded in experience. Teachers can connect with other dance teachers, creating a supportive space for shared learning and profession growth.

What is the difference between a webinar and a clinic?

The Enlighten webinars follow a presentation format, with question-and-answer time at the end where the School’s Teacher Training tutors provide advice and support to participants.

The Enlighten clinics are an interactive session, offering a unique opportunity for teachers to bring their questions, challenges and experiences to the discussion. These  sessions are designed as an open forum where participants can engage directly with specialist presenters. 

Both offerings are 1.5 hours in duration and delivered via Zoom. Each session is capped at 30 participants to ensure integrity and quality of service.

Teachers from all backgrounds, from student to experienced teachers, aged 18+.
