The Royal Ballet School has a rich heritage of promoting excellence in classical ballet teaching. In our teacher training courses, we use our unique expertise to empower all teachers to deliver exceptional training, whether in the vocational or recreational sector.
We continually work to remain at the forefront of the field. Our courses are rooted in pedagogy and support teachers to reflect on their practice and develop their skills and knowledge to give the best learning experience for their students.
We offer courses for dance professionals at all levels of experience and from all backgrounds. These range from one-hour webinars to one-day in-person seminars, our dedicated programme for Affiliate recreational teachers, and our two-year vocational Diploma of Dance Teaching.

Inspire seminars
Held in the UK and internationally, our one-day Inspire seminars support the professional development of teachers from all backgrounds, from student teachers to experienced teachers. Alongside giving teachers a comprehensive understanding of the teaching of classical ballet technique, the seminars offer fresh, innovative ideas to guide teachers in their approach.
Enlighten webinars
Open to all, our one-hour Enlighten webinars give dance teachers invaluable insights, advice, inspiration and support, drawing on the School’s extensive knowledge and experience as a world leader in dance education. The webinars are perfect for developing a teacher’s CPD portfolio and an excellent supplement to our Inspire series.
Diploma of Classical Ballet Teaching
The Diploma of Classical Ballet Teaching (DCBT) will prepare professional dancers, novice and experienced teachers to deliver classical ballet training to an international standard. The programme provides a rigorous foundation in both technical and creative pedagogical approaches, drawing on The Royal Ballet School’s vocational vocabulary, methodology and the most current research in dance education.
Affiliate Programme
Our Affiliate Programme extends The Royal Ballet School’s System of Training to recreational dance teachers, driving forward the standard of recreational dance training and keeping pace with the changing needs of the art form.
Teacher Observation Programme
The School has a longstanding commitment to excellence in dance teaching. The observation programme allows teachers to see the School’s teaching practice in action, further their knowledge and understanding, and gain fresh ideas for their practice.
Teacher Training Fellowship
Graduates of The Royal Ballet School’s teacher training courses form a global community of dance professionals and passionate advocates of the art form. Our Teacher Training Fellowship maintains a lifelong connection between these graduates and the School, offering support, networking, opportunities for professional development, and enriching experiences.
