The 2017 programme

These outstanding performances will feature dancers from all years of the School in a mixed programme of classical ballet repertoire, contemporary and character pieces. This year they will demonstrate the range of their abilities with works including Fokine’s exquisite Les Sylphides, MacMillan’s lyrical Concerto, Hans van Manen’s dynamic Solo and Didy Veldman’s enigmatic See Blue Through, with additional work by choreographers such as  Frederick Ashton, August Bournonville,  Ohad Naharin, and Jonathan Watkins.

The thrilling end-of-season matinee performance at the Royal Opera House culminates in the magnificent and iconic Grand Défilé, when all the students of the School dance onto the stage in unison. This performance will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House under the baton of Paul Murphy.

The Summer Performances see our current students follow in the footsteps of our alumni, dancers and choreographers of international renown. From Margot Fonteyn, Kenneth MacMillan, Antoinette Sibley, Anthony Dowell, Anya Linden, David Bintley and Darcey Bussell, to a new generation currently making its mark on the world stage – Lauren Cuthbertson, Steven McRae, Vadim Muntagirov and Edward Watson, The Royal Ballet School creates dancers who have both the technical ability and performance experience to enter a professional career in classical ballet.

It is a unique and exciting chance to see some of the world’s brightest young ballet dancers as they continue their journey to becoming professional dancers.
