Ninette de Valois Emerging Choreographer 2022

We were delighted to see the return of our Ninette de Valois Emerging Choreographer performances on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 March at White Lodge. After two years of these performances being cancelled due to COVID, it was fantastic for the students to have the opportunity to showcase their hard work in front of a live audience.

Imaginative choreography

11 student choreographers from Years 7, 8 and 9 presented their creations, which were performed by their fellow students. The pieces were not only choreographed by the students, but they also chose the music and gave their input on costume and lighting design. This allowed them to gain valuable practical experience of staging their work and managing dancers. It was also great to see the range of themes and topics that the students chose to base their pieces on such as mental health, oppression and nature.

Panel of experts

We were delighted to welcome Dame Monica Mason, Joseph Toonga and Valentino Zucchetti to the performances as our panel of experts. After watching the students’ pieces, they provided each choreographer with valuable feedback.

Celebrating expression

The School is committed to nurturing young choreographic talent and fostering creative curiosity. The Ninette de Valois Emerging Choreographer performances are a brilliant chance to appreciate our students’ experimentation and creativity.

A huge thank you to all the supporters, staff, students and everyone else who worked so hard to make these performances possible.
