The Nutcracker 2022
Nutcracker season is always magical. This year it feels even more so because it’s the first time our students have been able to be part of the full Royal Ballet production since before the global pandemic in 2019.
White Lodge students have loved and embraced every part of the process; from auditions, to costume fittings, rehearsals, and now performing on stage. They take over the whole first act of the production. They are cast as party children, soldiers, gingerbreads, and mice, and of course special featured roles as Sentry, Rabbit Drummer, and Fritz.
We have 86 students participating in total. We split them into two teams; 43 students for each performance! It has been a military operation to make sure that each student has ample rehearsal and performance time, and also has lots of time with their family for Christmas, no matter where they live—especially since we have students whose families live abroad.
Students working hard in rehearsal
We couldn’t be prouder of the work that each student has put in and of the Artistic staff who have prepared them so well for these memorable performances.
Earlier this month, ahead of the premiere, Christopher Powney and two of our students joined The Royal Ballet for their Insights: The Royal Ballet in Rehearsal – The Nutcracker event. Watch the rehearsal and Christopher and the students speaking from 23.30 below.
