Christmas Carol Concert 2022
The Royal Ballet School Christmas Carol Concert is a much-loved and valued day in our calendar. Not only do we come together as a School community to reflect on the past term and year, and to wish a merry Christmas to our friends and colleagues but we are also able to share in, and celebrate, the incredible musical talent of our students. Students work extraordinarily hard towards their ballet goals, but it’s important and exciting to us to encourage the other creative achievements of the impressive and well-rounded young artists at the School.
This year’s event felt even more special as we hadn’t been able to hold an in-person carol concert for the past two years. The students being together with their friends, families, and loved ones created a festive spirit that was hard to replicate in the midst of the pandemic.
Students were in two choirs; Years 7, 8, and 9; and Years 10 and 11. The Years 7, 8, and 9 choir gracefully sang Christmas favourites like Amid the Winter’s Snow, and Sweet was the song, and the Years 10 and 11 choir made In the Bleak Midwinter and Jesus bleibet meine Freude sound effortlessly beautiful. The congregation joined in with well-known carols including Once In Royal David’s City, O Little Town of Bethlehem and O Come, All Ye Faithful.
We are so grateful to the Reverend Jonathan Haynes for welcoming us to Christ Church in East Sheen and for his kindness in officiating. We’re also incredibly thankful to the PTA for the festive decorations, and to the Catering and Maintenance Departments at The Royal Ballet School for their help in the organisation of the service.
Final thanks go to William Fairbairn for playing the organ and to Maddie Chisholm, Year 7, for her inspired artwork for the order of service.
