Celebrating International Day of Charity with our Digital Members programme

This International Day of Charity, we are reflecting on two years of our Digital Members programme, our valued group of supporters who play a vital role in the future of the School.

Our Digital Membership actively widens access to our supporters around the UK and globally, providing exclusive opportunities for both online and in-person events at our White Lodge and Upper School locations. Membership highlights include pre-sale access to live performances, including our annual Summer Performance at the Royal Opera House, online ballet classes and performances, and bi-monthly e-newsletters with footage and stories from inside the School.

As a registered charity, annual Membership fees go directly to the School’s General Fund. From maintaining state-of-the-art studios and historic buildings to employing quality healthcare, pastoral, academic and artistic staff, our generous members are an important part of the School’s daily functions.

Digital Membership year-in-review

We invited our Members to three insider events throughout the 2024/25 year, across Upper School and White Lodge.

Last December, our Members watched the annual Kenneth MacMillan Emerging Choreographer preview performance, both at White Lodge and online. This choreographic programme nurtures the next generation of choreographers by providing an opportunity for students from Years 10 and 11 to present original works with guidance from their tutors.

In March 2025, our Upper School Solos Evening dress rehearsal was screened online for the first time to include our Digital Members, providing even wider access to insider performance opportunities. Students from 1st, 2nd and Pre-professional Years performed classical solo variations in the Linden Theatre at Upper School. Dame Monica Mason later awarded the inaugural Barbara Fewster Award for Musicality in honour of her late friend and former Associate Director of the School.

Finally, in June 2025, our Upper School students hosted a virtual open rehearsal of Les Patineurs, live-streamed and recorded for our Digital Members. School alumna Vanessa Palmer staged Frederick Ashton’s 1937 work featuring a party of ice-skaters frolicking in a wintry scene. This screening provided an exclusive preview of the work ahead of our Summer Performances at Opera Holland Park and the Royal Opera House.
