Two 2nd Year students are taking part in a production of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale tonight at the Royal College of Music. The concert is part of a series commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, drawing on music written during the War.
Tonight will be a fully-staged performance of Stravinsky’s wartime imagining of the encounter between a soldier and the devil.
Royal Ballet School 2nd Year student Grace Robinson, 18, will dance the part of the Princess, with choreography by fellow student Estelle Bovay, 18. Actor Edward Fox will narrate the story with James Murray conducting.
All Royal Ballet School students spend three hours a week participating in and creating choreography – time entirely devoted to creative work. Estelle explains her key influence: ‘I am particularly inspired by choreographer Jiří Kylián, and his work with the Nederlands Dans Theater – it is contemporary and dynamic.’
