Since joining The Royal Ballet School’s Associate Programme in 2021, Kelly McCole has been instrumental in inspiring and nurturing young dancers in Edinburgh. With a passion for teaching and a keen eye for talent, Kelly has helped shape the journey of many aspiring ballet dancers. We spoke with Kelly about her experience and what she thinks of the programme.

What do you love about being a part of the School’s Junior Associate Programme?

Working with young, talented, aspiring dancers. It is a joy to watch the dancers’ progression and passion grow from their first day as Year 4 Junior Associate students through to finishing as a Senior Associate in Year 9, or continuing their dreams by studying full-time at the School.

What do you hope the students learn from your teaching?

I hope they feel I fully support them and encourage them to achieve anything they want to.

What do students love about the programme? What have been some of your personal highlights?

Lots of students love the creative section of class, as they can express themselves through exploring lots of different elements. There are many students who have a natural ability for creativity and choreography.

Watching young dancers start their journey as Year 4 Junior Associate dancers and continuing their dreams studying full time, at Royal Ballet School, White lodge.

What would you say to young dancers and their parents who are considering joining the Junior Associate Programme?

If they are thinking of entering the world of ballet this programme is special. Each dancer will be nurtured and receive magnificent training, with access to many incredible members of staff at The Royal Ballet School.
