Safeguarding

The safety and well-being of all students is the highest priority at The Royal Ballet School and the school takes a ‘whole-school’ approach to safeguarding and wellbeing. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes (KCSIE, 2024). This definition highlights the need not just to keep children from harm, but also to actively promote their interests and welfare. This focus is adopted at the school accordingly.

Staff, students, parents, governors and volunteers are actively encouraged to speak up about any safeguarding concerns. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), or any deputy DSL can be contacted in order to report a safeguarding concern.

Students may also use Whisper to report any safeguarding concern anonymously. The link to the Whisper reporting page is: https://swgfl.org.uk/whisper/rbs1/
