Students participating in the kenneth macmillan emerging choreographer programme

Royal Ballet School students share their experiences of 2020’s Kenneth MacMillan Emerging Choreographer programme

Last December, our Year 10 and 11 students presented eight new dance works as part of the Kenneth MacMillan Emerging Choreographer programme. The students worked on every aspect of these pieces, from developing the choreography to choosing their own costumes and lighting.

The students received feedback after the performances from a panel of experts including Leanne Benjamin, Matthew Bourne, Kerry Nicholls and Marcelino Sambé.

This annual programme also gives our students the opportunity to manage their rehearsal schedules and casts, providing a useful insight into professional working life as a choreographer. Below, they show highlights from their work and discuss what taking part in the programme meant to them.

The Choreographic Programme is generously supported by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation, the Frederick Ashton Foundation and Lady MacMillan.

We are also grateful to Peter Wilson who is kindly supporting the choreographic development of the selected works.
