Where it starts

100 years of The Royal Ballet School

In 1926, the first students of The Royal Ballet School entered what was then known as the Academy of Choreographic Art to begin their training. Inspired by the vision of an English repertory ballet company and school like those in Europe and Russia, founder Dame Ninette de Valois created a foundation that would transform British ballet for years to come.

A century later, the School continues to honour its founding vision while embracing innovation and inclusivity as it prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2026.

With a legacy built on excellence, and a future focused on expanding opportunity and access, The Royal Ballet School remains at the forefront of shaping the next century of classical ballet.

This is where it starts.
