Our Year 8 students were treated to a visit from award-winning children’s author Chris Priestley today. The students are currently studying his book Mister Creecher in parallel with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Chris talked to the children about Mary Shelley’s novel and how his own book was inspired by the character of the Monster.

The visit was particularly topical, and not just because Halloween is only a week away. Chris is part of an exhibition on Gothic literature currently on at The British Library entitled Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination, and the BBC 2 is also running a special season of programmes called When Gothic was Born.

You can find out more about Chris Priestley’s writing on his website.
