The School launches environmentally responsible dancewear range

We are excited to have developed an environmentally responsible range of dance and activewear, in collaboration with leading dancewear brand Dansez.

The range

The launch range includes leotards, tights, shorts and tops perfect for dance, yoga, Pilates or gym use. The School and Dansez designed the pieces in consultation with Royal Ballet School students, to ensure they offered ultimate comfort and reassurance when moving. The pieces are in black with accents of the School’s trademark brilliant gold colour, and feature The Royal Ballet School logo.

Working with Dansez

Dansez have been a market leader in dancewear of exceptional quality and design for 45 years. All their products are hand-made in their studio in the UK, and are trusted by dancers worldwide. Striving for positive change for the planet, Dansez were the first dancewear producers in the UK to use ECONYL®, a regenerated fabric made out of nylon waste and abandoned fishing nets rescued from oceans by the Healthy Seas Initiative. This infinitely recyclable fibre is reducing the detrimental impact of fashion on our planet. ECONYL® has been incorporated into the finest Italian fabrics to create these pieces.

Developing the range

Together the School and Dansez conducted an initial survey of students to understand their dancewear needs, including the styles and fabrics they favoured. Overwhelmingly, students stated that knowing their dancewear was made sustainably was particularly important to them. Initial sample pieces were designed with the support of Brandon Lawrence, an alumnus of the School who designed his first collaborative label with Dansez in 2019. Brandon is especially passionate about creating beautiful, functional and sustainable dancewear pieces and was delighted to support the School in creating this range. Students were then invited to a focus group to try on sample pieces and give their feedback, before the garments went through a final alteration and refinement process.

Dansez strive to work with organisations who look for excellence, artistic innovation and social/environmental responsibility in everything they do. We are so proud to work with our exceptional students and Dansez to bring these beautiful pieces to dancers and gymgoers.Â
