Primary Steps students take part in The Nutcracker workshops

Our Primary Steps students had the exciting opportunity to take part in The Nutcracker-themed online workshops this Christmas. The workshops took place in early December and were delivered over Zoom by the School’s expert Artistic team.

The workshops

Through the story of The Nutcracker, the students were able to explore dance and practice different types of movement. They were given the chance to learn more about this famous Christmas ballet and enter into the festive spirit. The workshops were designed to inspire students and develop their interest in ballet.

Head of Training and Access, Mark Annear said:

The workshops were a wonderful opportunity to bring this quintessentially Christmas ballet to life for our Primary Steps students. Alongside introducing young students to movement and thinking creatively, our Primary Steps programme opens up the world of ballet and its rich heritage, and I’m delighted we could continue that with these workshops.

Festive activities

The students were also given a range of Christmas activities to participate in. They were able to use their imaginations by becoming snowflakes through movement and writing letters to the Nutcracker doll about the adventures they would like to go on. As well as this, they had the opportunity to get creative through arts and crafts tasks such as making Christmas cards and snowflake decorations.
