Expanding our Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme to Hong Kong
We are delighted to announce our Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP) is coming to Asia. Our Hong Kong Training Hub, generously sponsored by The Croucher Hong Kong Charitable Trust, will deliver in-person training in Hong Kong from 2024 and beyond.
The Royal Ballet School greatly values its presence in Hong Kong and has a rich history of delivering intensive courses to students in Asia and Oceania. The expansion of this innovative programme will allow easier access to the School’s unique style of training for aspiring young dancers.
Extending the School’s expertise to recreational dance teachers
ATAP extends The Royal Ballet School’s ethos and expertise to recreational dance teachers, helping to enhance standards of recreational dance training worldwide to keep pace with the changing needs of the art form.
Utilising a holistic approach, the programme offers an alternative to traditional models of examination study, empowering Affiliate Teachers as practitioners to guide and assess their own students’ learning. It is designed for teachers to deliver within their own schools and provides students with a holistic training pedagogy that aims to foster a love for the process of learning classical ballet, rather than the end product.
Since launching the programme, many recreational dance teachers have trained with us. Hear dance teacher, examiner and director John Byrne’s thoughts about the programme:
A bold, innovative and exciting new programme which I believe has the potential to change the way training and assessment is conducted in many private ballet schools throughout the world.
Bringing the ATAP ethos to Hong Kong
Thanks to the generous support of The Croucher Hong Kong Charitable Trust, we are looking for tutors based in or around Hong Kong to deliver online and in-person training to future ATAP teachers.
