Coming together for the new year – our staff INSET day 2023
Before our students return to the School for the new academic year, our staff completed various training sessions as part of our INSET week. Last Wednesday, all our staff came together for a full day of training at White Lodge.
Introducing the new year
The morning began with a welcome from our CEO & Artistic Director Christopher Powney, followed by updates from our Chief Operating Officer Pippa Adamson, Commercial Director Carol Dray, and Academic & Pastoral Principal David Gajadharsingh. They all reflected on the past year and the wonderful achievements throughout the School before discussing the vision for the next year. We also discussed our core values in this session, which benefitted everyone, especially our new staff joining the team this year. Before the morning concluded, our Designated Safeguarding Lead Christian Uitzinger took everyone through a safeguarding update.
Making positive changes
In the afternoon, everyone was split into groups to complete an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion training session led by Tonic. Tonic is a company that supports arts organisations by delivering programmes and workshops on equity. They offer solutions on how to drive changes and explain how these can positively impact everyone. We had some fantastic discussions, and it was great to see staff engaging in the different tasks. Creating and sustaining a positive environment for all at the School is essential, and this session was incredibly useful.
Sunshine and refreshments
The day ended with some delicious food and drinks in the garden provided by our wonderful caterers from Ch&Co who run our kitchen at White Lodge. They provided a range of tasty options including vegan burgers, Korean fried chicken and crab cakes accompanied by a refreshing selection of wines and elderflower water. After a thought-provoking day, seeing our staff enjoying a sunny evening in our beautiful White Lodge grounds was lovely. With such a large team, it’s rare for all our staff to come together, and so we love to see this happen on our INSET day each year.
Our Head of HR Christian Gallagher commented on the day:
I’d like to thank everyone who had a part in putting this year’s INSET together in whatever way, whether delivering a session, putting chairs out or catering the delicious food. Thanks to all of you for showing up, listening, contributing and starting the School year positively!
