Students perform in Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey

On Monday 9 March, Pre-professional Year students Wendel, Elliott and Cian-You were invited to perform at the annual Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey, delivered by the Royal Commonwealth Society.

Commonwealth Day celebrates the shared values and cooperation of the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries, home to 2.7 billion people.

Bringing together 1,800 guests from across the Commonwealth of Nations, the service showcased the Commonwealth’s cultural richness through music, dance and spoken word, reflecting this year’s theme, drawn from the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2026: Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth. Together, the performances and reflections highlighted collaboration as a defining strength of the Commonwealth’s global community.

The students were part of a powerful dance collaboration between the School and Sapnay Entertainments, which united classical ballet and Bollywood in a bespoke expression of cross-cultural partnership.

Led by Prabhleen Oberoi, the piece concluded the artistic programme of the service with our students dancing alongside Raheem Payne, Annaya Siyani and Shivee Singh from Sapnay Entertainments.

Other performances included Super Grouse ceilidh band, the Melodians Steel Orchestra and further special reflections and readings from guests, and the world premiere of the Commonwealth Symphony, composed by Rekesh Chauhan BEM.

We are grateful for the opportunity for our students to perform for our Patron, His Majesty The King, alongside Her Majesty The Queen and Members of the Royal Family including The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Pre-professional Year student Wendel was also invited to be in the receiving line as a representative of the School, and had the honour of meeting The King and The Prince of Wales.
