We’re excited to bring our one-day Intensive Courses back to London this October.

Open to all, this series of Intensives will explore musicality, flow of movement, and stagecraft using repertoire from the iconic ballet The Sleeping Beauty.

Sunday 22 October 2023 and/or Monday 23 October 2023

Eligibility

Students aged 11-12 years old on 31 August 2024 (in Year 6 or 7 in the academic year 2023/24)

Students aged 13-14 years old on 31 August 2024 (in Year 8 or 9 in the academic year 2023/24)

Requirements

These courses are non-selective. Places are limited and offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Developing musicality and flow of movement in classical ballet

Musicality and flow of movement are essential to classical ballet. This one-day course will develop and connect these components and help young dancers apply them to their dancing.

Students aged 11-12 years old on 31 August 2024

Timetable

09.30 – 10.00 – Registration
10.00 – 10.30 – Warm-up, body awareness and conditioning
10.45 – 12.15 – Ballet class: how can we develop musicality and apply it during class?
13.00 – 14.30 – Focus class: further exploration linking musicality to flow of movement, and how to develop this connection in our dancing
14.45 – 15.15 – Cool-down, reflection on the day’s learning and presentation of certificates.

Exploring stagecraft in The Sleeping Beauty

Stagecraft plays an essential part in developing a character and storytelling in classical ballet. This one-day course will explore stagecraft in The Sleeping Beauty and help young dancers apply an understanding of stagecraft to their practice.

10.00 – 10.30 – Warm-up, body awareness and conditioning
10.45 – 12.15 – Ballet class: incorporating aspects of The Sleeping Beauty
13.00 – 14.30 – Repertoire: analysing how stagecraft helps convey the story in this iconic ballet (Prologue Carabosse, Lilac Fairy, King & Queen)
14.45 – 15.15 – Cool-down, reflection on the day’s learning and presentation of certificates.

15.15 – 15.45 – Cool-down, reflection on the day’s learning and presentation of certificates.
