Young dancers wearing leotards audition in a dance studio for the royal ballet school

In-person preliminary auditions resume in Newcastle

The Royal Ballet School were delighted to hold in-person preliminary auditions in Newcastle on Thursday 11 November. These were our first in-person preliminary auditions since 2019.

The School holds auditions for our Full-time and Mid, Senior and Advanced Associate programmes between November and January each year, for courses commencing the following September. Our auditions are typically held at 9 centres around the UK. Like so many vocational schools, due to COVID-19, we needed to adapt our procedures to ensure the safety of applicants and our teams, and we conducted all preliminary applications for our 2021 intake by video.

Mark Annear, Head of Training & Access, says:

We are thrilled to be able to return to in-person auditions for our Full-time, Mid, Senior and Advanced Associate courses. We are looking forward to seeing over 1200 students at the preliminary auditions, we wish them all the very best and hope that they enjoy the experience.

The School holds auditions at centres in Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Dundee, Leeds, Eastleigh, Bath, Totnes and London. An audition takes the form of a regular classical ballet class, starting with a gentle warm-up and tailored to the age group taking part. Our audition teams are always delighted to meet so many young people with a love for classical ballet and seeing their wonderful potential.
