Delia Mathews promoted to Principal of Birmingham Royal Ballet
Birmingham Royal Ballet have announced that Royal Ballet School alumna, Delia Mathews, has been promoted from First Soloist to Principal.
Delia graduated from The Royal Ballet School in 2008, notably winning the Dame Ninette de Valois Award for the most outstanding graduate. She then joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in the same year and has since had an impressive career, rising through the company and performing leading roles in ballets including Frederick Ashton’s Les Rendezvous, and The Dream, Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker (Sugar Plum Fairy) and Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet (Juliet).
As well as Delia’s promotion, Royal Ballet School alumnus Yasuo Atsuji has been promoted from Soloist to First Soloist and alumna Laura Day from Artist to First Artist.
Congratulations to Delia, Yasuo and Laura and we look forward to watching their careers progress.
