New Associate centre to open in Scotland

The Royal Ballet School will soon be opening a new Associate centre in Scotland.

The new centre in Dundee will open in September 2019 and all students who apply will be offered an audition.

The Junior Associate classes, held at Dundee and Angus College, will be for young dancers in Scottish school years 5, 6 and 7.

There is no set grade that dancers must have reached or a minimum number of years’ experience to apply. The centre will offer fortnightly classes on Sundays throughout the academic year, with 18 sessions in total.

Classes will be led by Royal Ballet School-trained ballet teachers with up to 32 places available in 2019. Royal Ballet School Associates attend classes alongside their regular local ballet classes.

Applications open on 21 January 2019 on our website and auditions will take place in June.

Christopher Powney, Artistic Director of The Royal Ballet School, said: ‘This is an exciting new development for the School and we hope it will be the next step in seeking out and training more of the UK’s most talented young dancers.’

  1. Please can you advise if you are running a senior associate- age 14 upwards? We recently attended the insight class in Dundee and really enjoyed it.
    Many thanks

      Hi Val,
Thanks for your interest. We’re starting the new centre with Junior Associates in 2019/20 and we will be considering the introduction of Associate classes for older students in the future.
      Best wishes,
      Annalise
