Workshops for our Associate students

Last week we hosted several workshops for our Associate students. The workshops were held at Upper School and gave our Junior, Senior and Advanced Associates an exciting opportunity to attend the School and enhance their training with some new experiences.

New Adventures and audition preparation

On Monday 14 February our Senior and Advanced Associates worked on repertoire from Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! They worked on the choreography with Sophia Hurdley and Luke Murphy from the renowned dance-theatre company New Adventures. The New Adventures style of ballet is very different to the style many of our students are used to and so these workshops were a challenging yet enjoyable new experience. Our Associates also had the chance to take part in a ballet audition preparation class with our Birmingham Associate teacher, Rachel Hester.

Creative fairies

Our Junior Associates workshops took place on Tuesday 15 February. Our Year 4 students were led by Sophia Hurdley in a creative day based on the fairies from The Sleeping Beauty. They had an imaginative time coming up with their own fairy personas, deciding their superpowers and creating their fairy variations in groups.

A Playford Dance

Our Associate teacher Nicola Gains led a historical dance workshop for our Year 5 students in which they were taught a whole Playford dance. The workshop taught our students valuable skills in working as a team and with a partner.
